Why Public Policy News And Research?

Breakthroughs in solving pressing societal problems are often undercut by lack of citizen awareness of societal issues and solutions. And market-driven news media have been criticized for their emphasis on celebrity trivia, soap opera politics, over-reliance on official sources and violence without context. Arguably, these trends vastly underestimate the potential of news media as a tool for advancing the common good. Therefore, Public Policy News and Research aims to point readers toward diverse alternative solution-oriented sources of public affairs news and information, and in so doing it aspires to suggest new models of public affairs media that might attain greater leverage for advancing the common good. Examples of common sources include Rand, Brookings, Consortium News, Democracy Now, Christian Science Monitor and Join Together.
